We eat at Outback quite often. In the last few months we have ordered glasses of wine, assuming we were ordering 6 oz.

glasses. We were both brought 9 oz. glasses on three occasions. And I order Prosecco which is not even on the menu in the 9 oz.

size! When confronting the waiter, he says he just assumed we wanted the bigger size, exactly what we were told the last time and time before that by different waiters/waitresses.

We are assuming Outback is tricking their customers into buying the higher priced glasses by doing this, and we do not like it. We love the food and the service is slow at times but we are hardly ever disappointed, but this disappoints us!

Reason of review: tricked into buying 9 oz glasses of wine!.

Outback Steakhouse Pros: Food.

Outback Steakhouse Cons: Tricked into 9 oz glasses of wine.

I just paid $32.00 for 2 glasses of Kendall Jackson. Are you kidding me?Yes, they were 9 ounces but give me a break!Plus, their fillets now resemble miniture hockey pucks. No wonder Outback was empty tonight.

So yes... the server you had was not detailed enough (their error) and you could perhaps take out on him/her in that respect.

However, although he/she should have asked what size (i.e. 6 or 9oz glass of wine) the blame does fall on the guest (that means you). Let me explain, you were not tricked, but if you are looking to save a few bucks, I'll give you some tips. (By the way I work at Outback and have been in the service industry for a number of years).

Wine, beer, cocktails aND anything alcohol related in a restaurant are marked up to an extraordinary degree (just like popcorn at a movie). However, just like the before mentioned popcorn, the "large" size is just enough value for someone to pay the extra buck or two. In reality, a 9 Oz glass when compared to the 6oz is a far better deal... period.

Again. I work for the company and the amount you pay for an extra half serving of wine ( the 9oz) is good money spent. Take a look at the menu and compare the 6oz vs. 9oz and the price doesn't differ by more than $2.

I digress, the best and honestly only way to go is BUY THE BOTTLE unless you are ***-bent on drinking only one glass buy the *** bottle (this goes for anywhere you eat out). I'm not saying drink the entire thing... take it home the bottle and enjoy it later. A bottle of red opened will last more than a 4 to 5 days and whites can go even longer.

As for other advice never and I mean never ever buy a sparking wine (like your prosecco or anychampange, etc.) by the glass. Because unless you luck out and the server/bartender has to open a new bottle, the stuff you are going to end up drinking is going to be fizzled out so to speak (you can't recork anything carbonated and keep it for more than a few hours or so).

So to conclude...

No Outback is not trying to "trick" you into paying a few dollars more

Yes Outback does mark up prices for wine and such, but only just as much as any other restaurant does

Perhaps, your server was trying to inflate you check (so they get more money for their tip, because most base their tips on total check price)

AND now you know that anywhere you go out to eat and want the best deal... BUY the *** bottle and avoid the extremely high mark ups per glass But....

the final point I want to hammer home... make sure that you are detailed in your order as a guest to Outback or any restaurant. (Yes the server a dummy for not asking the size of the glass of wine) but he/she would have no excuse of ignorance if you would have said I want a 6Oz glass of _______ . Finally, no....

no no no... There is no Outback policy that is in place designed to "trick" you into purchasing more anything than want you ask for. For future circumstance (this goes for anywhere) do try and be as detailed as possible in your order and be on the lookout for the crummy servers that are trying to just build up your check just to make you tip them more without putting in anyore work (also a side note: if you think your sever is doing that or have anyother complaint, ASK to speak to a manager, they will cLear thInga up... thats their job).

Hope that long-winded explanation helps clear things up. Hopefully next time you're out to eat you'll have a better experience (at Outback or wherever) and wouldnt run into the same problemo...
